For the series Desire Lines (2013) Siepert + Baltensperger asked asylum seekers in Switzerland to draw their individual routes from their home country to where they are now. They placed a paper on top of a map and had the asylum seekers draw their journeys. The results are simple lines, which detached from their context are nothing but a formal aesthetic reference. But within the context of those people these lines tell stories about precarious lives, personal tragedy, and the hope for a new life in a new and better world.
